Charter Market Stages Faint Recovery in Q4.

Business Editors

STOCKHOLM Stockholm (stŏk`hôlm'), city (1995 pop. 692,954), capital of Sweden and of Stockholm co., E Sweden, situated where Lake Mälaren flows into the Baltic Sea. , Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 18, 2000

Sales of charter travel dropped by around 30% in the third quarter of 1999. At that time, the assessment was that the fourth quarter would mark a robust recovery and that bookings would clearly exceed the previous year. Because the rise has now emerged at a mere 6% or so, Ticket will be unable to satisfy its earlier earnings forecast. Earnings for the Swedish operations are expected to emerge at approximately SEK SEK

"Ticket is continuing to win market share," reports CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  Anders Holst, "but despite the fact that we have increased our sales of charter travel by 12% (versus the market's 6%) during the fourth quarter, we have been unable to recover a sufficient degree of volumes previously lost. This has an adverse earnings impact and we anticipate that the Swedish operations will generate earnings before tax of around SEK 18 m."

In total, Ticket's Swedish sales were up by around 5% in 1999, with an increase of approximately 3.5% in the charter travel segment. For the full year, the market for booked charter travel is expected to emerge unchanged on the previous year. This means that, despite the modest increase, Ticket's market shares have increased.

"We are seeing a clear pattern where charter travel in the winter season has been subject to considerably reduced demand, while interest in the summer season 2000 has been pronounced. Sweden and Norway are experiencing similar trends," said Mr. Holst "which means that our Norwegian Norwegian

, in 1999 the value of departed charter travel has been record-breaking, up around 17%, while the value of booked (pre-sold) charter travel was unchanged compared to the previous year. This reflects the shift that arises between booked and departed volumes when seasonal fluctuations become extreme, as was the case in 1999. This evens out over time and the relationship can be expected to be the reverse in 2000, i.e. booked volumes are higher than departed volumes. Accordingly, the winter season '99/00 will be very weak in terms of departed volumes. However, this will not have any detrimental det·ri·men·tal
