Charter Homes & Neighborhoods' Florin Hill (Mount Joy PA) Receives Award as Pennsylvania's Best Example of Smart Growth.

LANCASTER, Pa. -- Charter Homes & Neighborhood's Florin Hill neighborhood in Mount Joy (PA) has been named as the best example of smart growth in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania by 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania, which gave the company its Gold 2009 Commonwealth Award at a ceremony in Harrisburg yesterday. The award pays tribute to "visionaries who have invested in building a better future for Pennsylvania by creating communities that improve life for residents, employers, employees and visitors."

Florin Hill is a mixed-use neighborhood in the Borough of Mount Joy, located on 61 acres of land. Begun in 2004, this $100 million project will include different types of homes, including singles, townhomes and apartments as well as 75,000 square feet of office and retail space. It was selected from more than 30 other projects throughout the state for the top Commonwealth Award.

Rob Bowman, president of Charter Homes & Neighborhoods noted: "Having Florin Hill recognized as a real example of what's possible in the future for how our communities and state can grow is exciting for us. It is well-deserved recognition for all the people who worked to make Florin Hill happen, including those who now call Florin Hill home. As builders, we have a unique opportunity, working with forward-thinking communities like Mount Joy Borough, to create unique places that provide an alternative to more typical patterns of development. Florin Hill is a special place to build and a great place to live, work and play."

Florin Hill was selected for the award by a distinguished jury that determined the neighborhood best met the eight objectives of 10,000 Friends. These include revitalizing re·vi·tal·ize
