NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 17, 1996--

Establishes Charter as Leading Equipment Financing Firm to

Plastics Industry; Expands Wentworth's Existing Services

Charter Financial Inc., a leading national equipment financing company, announced today that a definitive agreement has been reached for the acquisition of Wentworth Capital Corp., a premier provider of financing services to the plastics industry.

Announcement of the agreement was made jointly by Alan A. Fischer, chairman of Charter Financial, and Samuel H. Smith
