Chart House Announces Relocation of Corporate Headquarters.

SOLANA BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 1997--Chart House Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE:CHT) announced that it will be relocating its corporate headquarters from Solana Beach, California to Chicago.

The move will begin in March 1998 and will be completed by mid-June.

The primary reason for the move is to bring the corporate personnel closer to the company's key strategic partners. In March, the company announced the issuance of 3,400,000 shares of common stock to Chart House Investors, LLC, an affiliate of Equity Group Investments, Inc., a privately held investment company located in Chicago and headed by Sam Zell.

"We deliberated over this decision for some time but in the end realized that it is the only solution that makes long-term sense for the company," said Dick Rivera, the company's president and chief executive officer. "In addition to bringing us closer to our strategic partners, a central location will allow us to better serve the needs of our restaurants on both coasts. We also anticipate a greater opportunity to attract and retain new personnel needed to perform key functions which are currently missing at the company."

The decision will affect approximately 60 persons currently working in the Solana Beach headquarters. A regional office staffed by approximately 10 persons will remain in San Diego County. The company is currently in the process of evaluating which employees will relocate to Chicago. All employees that do not relocate or remain in the regional office will be offered severance payments and job search assistance.

Chart House Enterprises, Inc. operates 61 restaurants in the United States, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, and also operates Solana Beach Baking Co., a wholesale bakery.
