Charlton boasts All-Star team; U12 softball champs at Hopedale tourney.


Recently the Charlton's U-12 Girls softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  All-Stars participated in a weekend-long tournament in Hopedale. During the first day of the tournament the girls set an impressive tone with great pitching and strong defense and offense, which included a home run by Charlton's Lauren DeStephano. They finished day one of the tournament with a 3-0 record.

The competition grew more intense as Charlton was able to win against the Hopedale B team in the semi-finals and go on to the finals against the Hopedale A team for the championship.

 with a 2-0 score and never looked back. Jess Olson and Hannah McFadden shared pitching duties while Charlton's offense and defense contained the opposing Hopedale A team and won with a final score of 9-3.

Casey Baker of Charlton was awarded the game ball and the MVP (Multimedia Video Processor) A high-speed DSP chip from Texas Instruments, introduced in 1994. Officially introduced as the TMS320C80, it combines RISC technology with the functionality of four DSPs on one chip.  award for the weekend tournament.

Charlton went undefeated during the Hopedale tournament with a 5-0 record. The camaraderie ca·ma·ra·der·ie

 of the Charlton team was impressive throughout the weekend event. During the weekend the girls supported each other through good and tough times.

Clearly, the Charlton girls know there is no "I" in the spelling of this team!
