Charlotte-based J.A. Jones filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Charlotte-based J.A. Jones filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The 113-year-old conglomerate is one of the world's largest construction companies, with eight subsidiaries--including Rea Construction and J.A. Jones Construction--and 6,000 employees worldwide. It is owned by Philipp Holzmann, a German holding company that is in financial turmoil. It is expected that each of the subsidiaries will be sold separately to pay several creditors, mostly insurance companies.
