Charles Trimble Named KVH Director; Founder of Trimble Navigation Limited Brings GPS Expertise.

KVH Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ:KVHI) today announced that it has named Charles R. Trimble, founder of Trimble Navigation Limited of Sunnyvale, California, and a world-renowned expert on global positioning system (GPS) technology, to its board of directors. KVH board membership remains at seven as Mr. Trimble succeeds James Saalfield, who resigned in October 1998, as a Class II director.

Mr. Trimble established Trimble Navigation, which designs, manufactures and markets GPS-enabled electronic products that determine precise geographic location, in 1978. He served as Trimble Navigation's president and chief executive officer until August 1998. Under Mr. Trimble's leadership, Trimble Navigation grew from a startup to the first public company engaged solely in providing GPS solutions, with 1998 revenues of over $260 million and a dominant role in the GPS information technology market. Mr. Trimble is an elected member of the National Academy of Engineering and has been chairman of the United States GPS Industry Council since 1996.

KVH develops and manufactures products that can provide positional data even when GPS is blocked by structures, terrain or deliberate blocking of satellite signals. TACNAV(TM), the company's tactical navigation system, provides accurate, real-time heading, orientation, position and pointing information for a variety of military vehicles in the U.S. and abroad. KVH is integrating its fiber optic gyro (FOG) technology with TACNAV to produce a navigation system that will meet the accuracy and durability requirements of the most advanced armored vehicles. The company's communications products deliver television, phone, fax and data and navigation systems in mobile environments. Products that deliver television and certain data through direct broadcast satellite include TracVision(R) LM for land vehicles such as RVs, SUVs, long-haul trucks and mini-vans, and TracVision 3 for marine vessels. Tracphone(R) 25 and Tracphone 50 deliver voice, fax and data to a broad range of vessels, from pleasure boats to international commercial ships.

Prior to founding Trimble Navigation, Mr. Trimble was manager of Integrated Circuit Research and Development at Hewlett-Packard's Santa Clara Division and he was recognized at that time for developing commercial advances in efficient signal processing, high-speed analog-to-digital converters, and digital time measurement techniques to the picosecond level. Mr. Trimble's awards include: the Piper General Aviation Award from the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics for pioneering the manufacture and application of affordable GPS; the Kershner award from The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers for significant technological contributions to electronic navigation and positioning systems, equipment or practices; and INC Magazine's 1991 "Entrepreneur of the Year" award.

Mr. Trimble is a former member of the Board of Governors for the National Center for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the Council on Foreign Relations, and the Vice President's Space Policy Advisory Board's task group on the future of U.S. Space Industrial Base for the National Space Council. He received a BS degree in Engineering Physics, with honors, and a MS degree in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology. Mr. Trimble holds patents in signal processing and GPS.
