Charles Thornton honored with craftsmanship award.


Charles H. Thornton, PhD., P.E., co chairman of Thornton-Tomasetti Group, Inc., the 450-person, international engineering and design firm, was honored with The General Society of Craftsmanship Award from The General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen of the City of New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
 at their 219th Anniversary Celebration held recently at the General Society Building in Manhattan.

 and featured the dedication of the World Trade Center Monument to Steel, a large steel remnant of the World Trade Center that has been donated to The General Society for inclusion in their Museum collection.

Cavanagh, former president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. The General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen of the City of New York was founded in 1785 to provide cultural, educational and social ser vices to families of skilled craftsmen. In 1820, The General Society opened one of the city's first free schools as well as the Apprentices' Library.

The school, which became the Mechanics Institute in 1858, continues to provide tuition-free evening instruction in trades-related education.
