Charles McVey's new band Ponyboy plays Kirby's Oct. 7.

WICHITA - Ponyboy, a two-piece trash rock grunge band from Lawrence, storms Kirby's Oct. 7. Composed of only drums, bastardized bass guitar and angst-ridden vocals, the music focuses on topics of isolation, abandonment and fear.

"With the music, we attempt to address self image and masculinity issues from the perspective of an outsider," McVey explains. Ponyboy is fronted by McVey on bass with David Zey on drums. Since its inception in January 2011, the two-piece band has performed at a dozen shows, released Little Dick Demo and scored music for the upcoming documentary/adult film Sexing the Transman from filmmaking pioneer Buck Angel.

They are currently working on tracks for an upcoming full length CD titled Dick Dick Dick, due out in the spring of 2012 on McVey's Impure Records.
