Asheville is a city in Buncombe County, North Carolina, and is its county seat. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 68,889. It is the largest city in western North Carolina, and continues to grow.

Mr. Russell (61) has been a CPA (Computer Press Association, Landing, NJ) An earlier membership organization founded in 1983 that promoted excellence in computer journalism. Its annual awards honored outstanding examples in print, broadcast and electronic media. The CPA disbanded in 2000.  since 1969 and has been in the public practice of accounting, auditing, and tax for more than 30 years. He has been affiliated with Painter Russell since its inception, is responsible for the overall supervision of audits conducted by the firm, and also is active in the mergers and acquisitions area of the practice. He is a graduate of Pfeiffer University and has served on various boards and committees in the Asheville area. His election fills the position left vacant by the death of Ralph H. Gardner.
