Charles Barkley Considering Running for Governor, Again"Alabama, that's my home. I'm thinking about running for governor; they need the help," Barkley said as reported by Sports Illustrated Online. And though his decision to run was well-received by Alabama's Democratic Party chairman, Joe Turnham, Jim Seroka, a political science professor at Auburn University, says the former Auburn basketball star is getting ahead of himself. "He doesn't have any of the bases necessary to run a statewide campaign," Seroka said. The Leeds native has been talking about running for governor of his home state since 1995, when he was playing with the NBA's Phoenix Suns, but his wishes never gave way. Furthermore, only recently has Barkley switched his political hues from blue to red, representing the Democratic team. "I was a Republican until they lost their minds," Sir Charles said earlier this month at a celebrity golf tournament in Nevada. Have a news tip? Email us. Read more vibe.com news headlines.
