Newcastle-based housing support charity Norcare kicked off a series of fundraisers with staff taking on eight-mile circular walk the 'Cheviot challenge', in the Cheviot hills Cheviot Hills (chĕv`ēət, chēv`–), range, c.35 mi (56 km) long, extending along part of the border between Scotland and England. The highest point is The Cheviot (2,676 ft/816 m). , Northumberland.

The group which believes housing should be about more than putting a roof over someone's head, is aiming to collect a total of pounds 8,000 for a new minibus so the cause can run a whole range of new events and activities.

Susan Bickerton, chief executive at Norcare said: "We will be working hard throughout the organisation to raise the money as a minibus will allow us the freedom to offer more events and activities".
