Charity tour postponed.

THE proposed visit of an American-Jewish charity activist Barbara Lubin to Bahrain has been postponed because of the continuing unrest in the Gaza Strip.

It was hoped that she would arrive in the country sometime this week but she is now unlikely to come before January 25.

Ms Lubin is the founder and executive director of the California-based Middle East Children's Alliance (Meca) and had been invited to Bahrain by volunteer worker Hassan Al Husseini.

She has been helping displaced Palestinian children in Gaza, West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq through Meca and now in Cairo to negotiate the crossing of a substantial aid consignment into Gaza.

Ms Lubin is hoping to pass the Gaza border with the consignment and plans to stay there for five days, after which she will travel to Bahrain.

Mr Al Husseini has been seeking the support of people in Bahrain to organise a series of events for Ms Lubin during her stay.

However, he said no formal arrangements could be made until he confirmed her date of arrival.
