Charity task for top duo.Byline: By MARC ORME Sports Correspondent TWO Huddersfield race aces will be in action at a star-studded charity event featuring some of the biggest names in world motorsport. Emerging motor racing talent Daniel Lloyd, who will be competing in the 2009 ELF Renault Clio Cup Entry List for 2007 (still under construction) No. Driver Team Car cc. Rounds 6 , and Tom Sykes, who has graduated to World Superbikes, will take part in the BP Ul timate Celebrity Kart Challenge at Birmingham NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98). NEC was founded in Tokyo in 1899 as Nippon Electric Company, Ltd. today. As a regular feature of the annual Autosport International Show each January, the endurance race sees teams of seven drivers pitted against each other with the aim of raising as much as possible for charity. This year the funds will go to the Richard Burns Foundation, a charity established in memory of the former World Rally Champion who lost his battle with brain cancer in November 2005. Poignantly, the charity is one which means a great deal to Daniel and his family as his father Neil recovered from a brain tumour nine years ago. Scammonden-based Daniel will team up for the event with World Rally Championship contender Jari-Matti Latvala (Finland) and WRC WRC World Rally Championship (auto racing) WRC World Radiocommunication Conference WRC Water Resource Center WRC Women's Resource Center WRC Welding Research Council WRC Water Research Commission (South Africa) star Chris Atkinson (Australia). It is one of the most exciting line - ups confirmed for the NEC spectacular and Lloyd's team will run under the banner 'Racing4Richard' in deference to Burns. The squad will also feature SMRC SMRC Student Movement for Real Change SMRC Scottish Motor Racing Club (UK) SMRC Swedish Medical Research Council SMRC Software Management Review Council SMRC Source, Maintenance, and Recoverability Code Legends Cars Champion Carol Brown and two, yet-to-be-selected, public drivers who will each donate pounds 300 to charity. "The Celebrity Kart Challenge is always fantastic fun but the most important part is raising as much as possible for charity," said 16-year-old Daniel. "The Richard Burns Foundation is very close to my heart as my dad Neil had a brain tumour several years ago. Thankfully, he was one of the lucky ones so it means a lot to me to be racing for such an incredible charity." |
