Charity set up in name of girl killed by elephant.

THE grieving father of a 10 year-old girl who was crushed by an elephant has set up an education charity in her name.

Charlotte Parker and her Worcestershire mum Veronica died when the beast charged into them while they were on holiday in Zimbabwe. Writer Veronica, 47, and her daughter died at the scene of the tragedy in Hwange National Park. Now grieving husband and father Kelvin has revealed that his daughter's memory will live on. "I am setting up a charity in Charlotte's name," he told the Sunday Mercury.

"It will be about helping to educate African children."

The family had been holidaying in Zimbabwe after leaving their home in Knysna, South Africa. They had planned to move to France after the holiday.

Veronica had left her Worcestershire home before marrying Kelvin, 54, an advertising agency director, many years ago. It is thought both her parents had died.

Mr Parker is currently living with his parents in Ipswich.

"The charity is in its early days and may not be up and running for a while," he added.

The family had been watching an elephant whilst on safari. As they were about to leave the scene, the animal charged. Mr Parker managed to escape but Veronica and Charlotte were crushed.

Post-mortem examinations found that Veronica died of severe head injuries, while Charlotte suffered multiple internal injuries.

The inquests into their deaths were held in Worcestershire by coroner Victor Round. They were both cremated in the county after the hearing in S tourport-on-Seven.
