Charity champs' leap of love for region's causes.

A cash donation means youngsters at a North East primary school have some special equipment to use.

Children at Percy Hedley School in Forest Hall, Newcastle, have new communications aids, thanks to a Newcastle law firm.

Nearly pounds 3,500 has been given to the school by Grey Street-based Irwin Mitchell Irwin Mitchell is a major firm of solicitors in the United Kingdom, with offices in Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield, and the Spanish cities of Madrid and Marbella.  after staff took part in events last year, including a sponsored abseil down the side of the Tyne Bridge

The money will be used to buy a new electronic computer aid to help pupils who suffer from cerebral palsy cerebral palsy (sərē`brəl pôl`zē), disability caused by brain damage before or during birth or in the first years, resulting in a loss of voluntary muscular control and coordination.  and other disabilities to use telephones and improve their communications skills.

Eight of the group did a tandem jump and the other person, Chris Collins, did a solo jump.

The brave jumpers raised pounds 3,325 in sponsorship and another pounds 1,000 was received from a Community Cashback Award, bringing the total raised to pounds 4682.

The Children's Foundation is a progressive charity working to raise awareness and funds to improve the health and well being of children and young people in the North East and Cumbria.

COMMUNITY groups, schools, sporting teams and hospital wards throughout County Durham could be given a helping hand this year, thanks to Prince Bishops Shopping Centre Community Fund.

The fund will support worthwhile causes throughout County Durham which require funding for new premises, equipment, or anything to improve the community and the lives of the people who live in it.

More than pounds 3,000 has initially been put aside for the Community Fund, which will be equally given to worthy causes depending upon urgency and need.

PRONTAPRINT Durham has handed over a cheque for pounds 250 to the Red Cross after local people snapped up specially printed charity Christmas cards featuring scenes of Durham and Newcastle.

The Red Cross commissioned the shop in New Elvet to produce 2,000 cards of eight scenes depicting Durham & Newcastle.

But Giles and Nancy Radford, the owners of Prontaprint, offered to print a further 6,000 for sale, making a donation to the charity for each one sold.

The Red Cross and Prontaprint Durham will be continuing their successful partnership next year.

Photographers will be encouraged to enter a competition to provide images for the Christmas cards.
