Hotel will host a New Year's Eve Crystal Ball extravaganza in aid of the local hero.

The charity bash will include a Champagne reception, four-course dinner, live music and a disco.

Sir Bobby was at last year's event to mark the success of his cancer foundation.

Pauline Buglass, head of fundraising at the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, said: "Last year Sir Bobby attended the Crystal Ball with his wife Lady Elsie.

"The event provided a fitting end to a very successful year of fundraising for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.

"This New Year's Eve we will be looking back on a very different year because, of course, we lost Sir Bobby to cancer in July.

"However, I'm sure he would be the first to express his pride in rounding things off once more with a fundraising event which will help continue his work in fighting cancer for the benefit of patients across the whole North East."

The charity has already helped out in local care centres including the Northern Centre for Cancer Care and has raised over pounds 2m so far.
