Charities cash in with Romans; Tees Pride.NEWTON Aycliffe-based shower designer and manufacturer, Roman, has raised thousands of pounds for two Tees Valley The Tees Valley is an area the North East of England. It can be described as "greater Teesside" and consists of the four unitary authorities created by the breakup of the County of Cleveland in 1996: Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland, and Stockton-On-Tees along with good causes. Hard work by staff at the firm has seen pounds 11,000 collected over the last two years. The two charities at the heart of Roman's fund-raising efforts are St Teresa's Hospice hospice, program of humane and supportive care for the terminally ill and their families; the term also applies to a professional facility that provides care to dying patients who can no longer be cared for at home. and the Darlington and District Samaritans, both based on Woodlands Road, Darlington. A grand total of pounds 7,000 was raised for both charities during 2008, which was evenly distributed between the two. In 2007, the company collected pounds 4,000 towards the charity pot. The key fund-raising activity over the last 12 months involved a team of 12 Roman employees completing an 84-mile challenge to walk Hadrian's Wall Hadrian's Wall, ancient Roman wall, 73.5 mi (118.3 km) long, across the narrow part of the island of Great Britain from Wallsend on the Tyne River to Bowness at the head of Solway Firth. It was mainly built from c.A.D. , coast to coast. In addition, the company auctioned off all unused laptops to employees, along with various cash collections round the factory to contribute to the overall total. The Roman charity committee is currently deciding on their chosen charities and activities for the next 12 months..
