BERLIN & REDWOOD SHORES, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 19, 2001

SeeBeyond (Nasdaq:SBYN), the leading global provider of eBI solutions, today announced that Charite, the largest European University Hospital, has upgraded its integration platform to SeeBeyond's e*Gate(TM) Integrator. Charite Hospital of the Humboldt University Berlin is a union of the two main campuses, Virchow Klinikum Berlin-Wedding and Charite Berlin-Mitte. With a long history and a visionary attitude, Charite focuses on the perfect harmony of professional medicine, medical science and research, utilizing the latest in enabling technologies. With this upgrade, the SeeBeyond platform has enabled the integration of SAP ISH (Industry Solutions for Hospitals) to more than 30 systems spanning such areas as Radiology, Laboratory Applications, Pathology and various communication systems over the two campuses.

"Our priorities are twofold. We aim to provide the best service to our patients throughout the admission-to-discharge cycle by ensuring that all of our applications communicate together in real time," said Dr. Holger Sasse, head of the I/T I/T Inner Tank  Department of Charite. "We also want to keep our students at the forefront of technology with solutions such as those from SeeBeyond. The migration from Datagate to the e*Gate platform was a smooth and fast process."

Charite is now able to take full advantage of new product features such as dynamic deployment, distributed architecture, central monitoring and full business process management. This allows the organization to have full visibility of the end-to-end admission-to-discharge cycle, with the ability to detect potential failures and take corrective action A corrective action is a change implemented to address a weakness identified in a management system. Normally corrective actions are instigated in response to a customer complaint, abnormal levels if internal nonconformity, nonconformities identified during an internal audit or  earlier in the process.

"Our vision is to deliver real-time, end-to-end process management across not only core healthcare applications, but among campuses, hospitals and other key participants in the healthcare ecosystem," said David Bennett, vice president and general manager of EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) Refers to that region of the world. For example, one might see products packaged differently for the UK, EMEA and Asia Pacific markets.  for SeeBeyond. "This vision is at the heart of enabling improved patient service and reduced operational cost. A recent Gartner Group report estimated that over 40% of a standard I/T budget is spent on developing new interfaces or maintaining existing interfaces between applications or databases. This cost savings enjoyed by deploying a comprehensive, unified integration solution is better spent on patient care."

SeeBeyond is the number one integration standard in the global healthcare market with more than 400 international customers including Medizinische Einrichtungen der Universitat Koln and Kliniken der Rhon AG.
