James von Brunn is accused of shooting Stephen Johns in an attack on the building in the US capital on Wednesday.

Von Brunn, who was injured during the incident, was being treated at a hospital in Washington.

He was also charged with killing in the course of possessing a firearm at a federal facility, and could face the death penalty under federal law, US authorities said on Thursday.
