Chapter member talks metalcasting at junior high career day.Bob Corn, AFS A distributed file system for large, widely dispersed Unix and Windows networks from Transarc Corporation, now part of IBM. It is noted for its ease of administration and expandability and stems from Carnegie-Mellon's Andrew File System. AFS - Andrew File System Northeastern Indiana Chapter board member and assistant metalcasting manager of the Ford Meter Box Co., Wabash, Ind., recently presented an introduction to the metalcasting industry to approximately 15 junior high students during a career day. Corn was joined by local businesses that presented a variety of professional careers to the seventh and eighth grade students at Manchester Junior High School, North Manchester, Ind. Corn discussed his personal educational background, work experience, what a typical day is like, a brief overview of the history of Ford Meter Box and the application of school disciplines on the job. He also explained how the knowledge of science and the Periodic Table applies to understanding metal chemistry and the importance of math when dealing with piece rates.
