Chapman is loving it in Eagles nest.

Byline: MARK DOUGLAS Mark William Douglas (b. 20 October, 1968 in Nelson, New Zealand) is an international cricketer. He played six one-day internationals and no Tests for New Zealand. He also played for Nelson in the Hawke Cup.

NEWCASTLE Eagles The Newcastle Eagles, or officially the Northern Rock Newcastle Eagles by sponsorship, is a British Basketball League team from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne. Since 1995 they have played all home games at the 6,500 capacity Metro Radio Arena in the city, currently the largest-capacity  star Joe Chapman says he is revelling in his new role as an impact player after revealing he was happy to be benched last weekend.

After a couple of below-par displays Fab Flournoy dropped Chapman to the bench along with Charles Smith Charles Smith may refer to:

Chapman took the move in his stride, though, stepping up to score some vital points as the Eagles eventually eased past a tenacious Worcester Wolves side.

, the Marquette University graduate believes Flournoy may have found the best way to utilise his talents.

"We're all finding our niche at the moment. If that means me spending some time on the bench so I can offer some offensive power later in the game, I'm happy to do that for the team," he said.

"Either way - if I'm starting or coming off the bench I am going to be giving it my all.

"But I think I will be good at providing the spark coming off the bench and lifting the guys later in the game.

"I think it will work very well for the team actually - especially when Fab comes back into things.

"He will start and we will go out there with a more defensive outlook and hopefully I will come on later and lend a hand with both the offence and defence."

For Chapman it has been something of a baptism of fire Baptism of Fire

since arriving in Britain following a season in the Mexican league.

Not only is the Chicago-born guard the only new arrival in a team mostly full of established men, but his arrival has also coincided with questions about whether the Eagles' dominance of British basketball is on the wane after three straight defeats.

Some of those questions were answered with the 87-63 defeat of the Wolves and Chapman - who contributed 14 points to the victory - feels the Eagles can use the win as a springboard to further success.

"It was really important to get that win because we've been struggling a bit recently," he admitted.

"We've been a guy down and it has been tough for us.

"We have had to buckle down and focus on each and concentrate on how we can all help each other out.

"It's been difficult for me as the new guy to come in at a time when the team is still getting together. "But every team goes through that and every team loses games.

"It is not a happy place when you're not winning and the most important thing is not to panic too much.

"It's all about persevering and just making sure you get through it."
