Chaparral Expands Presence in the Multimedia Industry Through Strategic Alliance With Pinnacle Systems.

    Business Editors/Technology Writers

    LONGMONT, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 17, 2000--

Pinnacle Systems to Integrate Chaparral External
RAID Controllers to Support Image Intensive
               Broadcasting and Production Applications

Chaparral Network Storage, Inc., a leading provider of intelligent
storage networking solutions, announced today a strategic alliance
with Pinnacle Systems, Inc., a leading provider of
digital-video-editing products for both professional videographers and
consumers.
Chaparral's K7313 external RAID controllers will be incorporated
into Pinnacle System's Thunder family of video and audio storage
solutions.
"Pinnacles System's Thunder solutions, supported by Chaparral RAID
controllers, enable high-quality playback at very high bit rates,"
said Greg Hoberg, vice president Broadcast Systems, Pinnacle Systems,
Inc. "Chaparral products deliver high bandwidth and high reliability,
key requirements for image intensive broadcasting and production
applications."
    Pinnacle's Thunder is a new multi-channel server demonstrating a
wide-range of high-powered technologies and features integrated in one
product. The Thunder server delivers the functionality of a
traditional multi-channel server, the M/E of a production switcher, an
audio mixer and a downstream keyer, enabling broadcasters and content
providers the ability to Web-cast their programming over the Internet.
Thunder's scalable storage capabilities are based on separate Fibre
Channel disk arrays using off-the-shelf drives and enable multiple
Thunder systems to be networked together using Fibre Channel.
"Chaparral and Pinnacle will work together to deliver innovative
storage solutions that offer high performance, scalability and
fault-tolerance to pre- and post-production professionals," said Brian
Allison, vice president of sales at Chaparral Network Storage, Inc.
"As a price/performance leader of external RAID controllers, Chaparral
continues to expand its presence in the multimedia industry."
Chaparral's K7313 external RAID controllers support Ultra2 SCSI
and Fibre Channel, enabling end-users to continue using SCSI legacy
devices, while benefiting from the increased speeds of Fibre Channel.
The K7313 external RAID controllers provide the necessary performance
and bandwidth for data-intensive film and video, CAD, seismic
research, digital prepress and 3-D imaging applications.
