, is undergoing a change in management, a move that could lead to a very different look come next year.

On May 10, Canon Communications (cancom.com) announced the acquisition of Nepcon East, Assembly Technology Expo and six other trade shows from Reed Elsevier (reed-elsevier.com). Terms were not disclosed; the deal was set to close in June. Canon is expected to merge Nepcon with its own OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  New England New England, name applied to the region comprising six states of the NE United States—Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The region is thought to have been so named by Capt.  show; the co-located show might take place in October, Reed sources say.

On the floor of the May 10-11 show, traffic on the first day was solid in the morning but had tapered by late afternoon. Day 2 was slow. Few new products were introduced, but progress was cited in other quarters. Essemtec (essemtec.com) said its new demo lab was almost ready. Similarly, VJ Electronix (vjt.com) will move in early July to a larger plant in Littleton, MA. And Zestron (zestron.com) said it was moving into its new 50,000 sq. ft. plant in Virginia. Juki Automation's Bob Black said demand has been high for its selective soldering Selective soldering is the process of soldering only through-hole electronic components onto a printed circuit board that has surface mount components on the under-side. This is usually done because the surface mounted component is not glued into place, instead solder paste is used  line and more capacity will be brought online this fall.
