If so, you should be aware of potential forthcoming changes to the law. The Department for Communities and Local Government has recently completed a consultation which considered extending the duration of planning permissions in England. Although at the time of writing, full details of the scheme have yet to be announced To be announced (TBA) A contract for the purchase or sale of an MBS to be delivered at an agreed-upon future date but does not include a specified pool number and number of pools or precise amount to be delivered. , it is thought that the power to extend the lifetime of planning permissions will only apply to developments comprising more than 10 dwellings or developments which will provide more than 1,000 square metres of floor space. In the current economic climate, it has become increasingly difficult for developers to find purchasers even for their existing developments. This has led to a dramatic fall in the number of major developments being brought forward. Allowing unimplemented planning permissions to expire could have many unpleasant consequences. Firstly, when the economy improves developers will once again begin to bring forward sites for development. If planning permission on a prime site has expired, the developer will be required to submit a new planning application. Re-applying for planning permission can be costly and time-consuming. Further, there is no guarantee that planning permission will be granted just because the site has an expired planning permission. Secondly, the Government is concerned that economic recovery could be delayed if a large number of planning permissions lapse (language) LAPSE - A single assignment language for the Manchester dataflow machine. The Government is also keen to avoid a situation in which local planning authorities are unable to cope with a massive increase in the number of planning applications when the economy starts to improve. Extending the lifetime of planning permissions would reduce the pressure on planning authorities. Therefore, any developers who own sites with a planning permission which is due to expire in the near future should keep a close eye on the news in the coming weeks.
