Change begins with each of us. (Letters: you may be right).IN HER EXAMINED LIFE COLUMN ("POWER PLAYS," JULY), Heidi Schlumpf was livid livid /liv·id/ (liv´id) discolored, as from a contusion or bruise; black and blue. liv·id adj. at the scandalous MATTER, SCANDALOUS, equity pleading. A false and malicious statement of facts, not relevant to the cause. But nothing which is positively relevant, however harsh or gross the charge may be, can be considered scandalous. 4 Bouv. She believes the church is out of touch with young Catholic women and denigrates church leaders as a "good ol' boys' club." Her vilifying questions--"This is my church? These old men are supposed to represent me?"--quite rattled my cage My Cage is an American daily comic strip by Melissa DeJesus and Ed Power and distributed by King Features Syndicate. The strip debuted on May 6, 2007, and is the first "manga-inspired" comic to be syndicated by King Features. . These priests do not represent you or me, they represent Christ. Bishops harboring criminals must be likewise subject to law. Yet reform will not be effective if we think only priests and bishops must change. A new line of seminarians purporting the necessity of married priests or women in the clergy would be as incidental to reform as a new line of chasubles if we do not continue to progress spiritually in our hearts, minds, and souls. How does it benefit us to point fingers and yell "sexism" if it is feminism that we want to insert instead? Will we find peace if it is simply our own agenda we wish to advance--and not our souls? Our dear Lord died for all the sins of "power plays," even those of unfaithful priests if they seek forgiveness.
