THINK you've got no part to play in Cardiff becoming Capital of Culture 2008?

Well, if you own some holiday snaps, have ever bought a ticket to something or have the ability to write, you now have no excuse.

A unique new art project has been set up at the campaign headquarters in the Old Library in the city, and people across the Welsh capital are being invited to play their part and get involved to make sure Cardiff bags the title.

Called Collect 2008, it has been devised by Cardiff-based artists Pete Williams and Lou Thornton, who are also overseeing the project.

The aim is to collect 2008 items based on a monthly theme, running from now until September, which will then be displayed in 2008 miniature plastic bags mounted on three walls at the Old Library.

From today, people can drop in anytime between 10am and 5pm, Tuesday to Saturday, to drop off their chosen items.

This month's theme is red, to represent the identity of Wales, which will be followed by fingerprints in May, tickets in June, signatures in July, holiday snaps and postcards in August and faces - for example, passport photos and portraits - in September.

Pete told the Echo: "I was resident artist at the Old Library for a time when I was working the huge wood panels which hang in the entrance.

Collection points where people can drop off an item or use ink to leave their fingerprints are in the process of being set up at the National Museum in Cathays Park, the Old Library and Chapter Arts Centre.
