THE hunt is on for the West Midlands' best cake and pudding maker.

People who like nothing better than donning their pinny and getting their mixing bowl out are invited to enter the competition.

Regional heats will take at Birmingham College of Food on September 18 when there will be a bake off.

The Amateur Pudding Chef of the Year competition is being held by frozen desserts specialist PUDZ.

To enter, cooks need to submit their best recipe for any type of dessert and five will be selected to take part in the regional bake-off.

The Birmingham winner will go to the national final at the Good Housekeeping Good Housekeeping is a women's magazine owned by the Hearst Corporation, featuring articles about women's interests, product testing by The Good Housekeeping Institute, recipes, diet, health as well as literary articles.  Institute Kitchen in London on November 13.

The five finalists from Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Bristol and Glasgow will each prepare their pudding, which will then be judged by top celebrity chef In its strictest sense, a celebrity chef is a someone who has become well-known for his/her cooking. The first historical personality that fits this description is Martino da Como but in practical terms the term grew in popularity during the 1990s. , Mich Turner.

The winner will be crowned the Amateur Pudding Chef of the Year 2008 and receive a weekend away at the Pudding Club in the Cotswolds.

They will also win a cooking lesson with Mr Turner, who has baked cakes for the Queen, Sir Paul McCartney Noun 1. Paul McCartney - English rock star and bass guitarist and songwriter who with John Lennon wrote most of the music for the Beatles (born in 1942)
McCartney, Sir James Paul McCartney
 and Madonna amongst others, and been described by Gordon Ramsey as "the Bentley of cake makers".

Entrants must be over 18 and recipes can be sent to PUDZ Amateur Pudding Chef of the Year, Brazen bra·zen
