BOXING: Luke Campbell stands eight minutes away from becoming England's first European amateur champion in almost half-a-century after another fine win in Liverpool.

Hull bantamweight Campbell scored a cagey 4-1 win over Germany's Denis Makarov to reach the final where he will meet experienced Bulgarian Detelin Dalakliev.

The last English fighter to go all the way in a competition regarded as tougher than the Olympics because of its strength in depth was Frankie Taylor, who triumphed in Belgrade in 1961.
