Champion International Corporation to Build New Sawmill in Northwest Florida.

120 New Permanent Jobs and $61 Million Investment

for Region's Economy

:CHA) announced today that it will build a new state-of-the-art sawmill sawmill, installation or facility in which cut logs are sawed into standard-sized boards and timbers. The saws used in such an installation are generally of three types: the circular saw, which consists of a disk with teeth around its edge; the band saw, which  on Champion land approximately 14 miles north of Cantonment, Florida Cantonment, Florida (pronounced Can-TONE-ment) is a suburb approximately 20 miles north of downtown Pensacola, Florida. Most of the people who live in Cantonment commute to either Pensacola or Pace/Milton, Florida area for work. .

The $61 million facility will create 120 new, high-skilled jobs. It will also utilize the best technologies and operating practices available to produce lumber for residential and commercial use throughout the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. .

In commenting on the announcement, chairman and chief executive officer Richard E. Olson said, "This is an important step in the execution of our company's strategy to grow in those businesses that generate economic profit and increase shareholder value." He added, "Governor Bush, Enterprise Florida, and the Escambia County Escambia County is the name of two counties in the United States of America:

He is a prominent member of the Bush family: the younger brother of current President George W.  said today, "The creation of new jobs by Champion International is great news for Northwest Florida. This administration is committed to bringing the kind of high-skilled jobs we are announcing today to Florida. I look forward to working with the leadership of Champion to make the start-up of their new facility in Florida go smoothly."

Champion's strategy, which was announced in October of 1997, includes selectively expanding its forest products business, especially softwood softwood
