Chameleon Systems Partners With Zaiq Technologies to Deliver Next-Generation Processor Chip.

Business/Technology Editors

WOBURN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 2, 2001

Leading Semiconductor Design Firm to Lead Verification of

High-Bandwidth Reconfigurable Communications Processor

Zaiq Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of complete design engineering solutions, announced today that Chameleon Systems, a leading fabless developer of communications semiconductors, has selected Zaiq to lead the verification of its 0.25-micron and 0.18-micron chips.

Chameleon Systems will tap Zaiq Technologies' networking and communications expertise to execute verification for the Chameleon 0.25-micron and 0.18-micron chips, designed for wireless communications wireless communications

applications. Zaiq will set up a robust verification environment for chips using Zaiq's state-of-the-art verification methodology, supporting RTL (Register Transfer Level) A high-level hardware description language (HDL) for defining digital circuits. The circuits are described as a collection of registers, Boolean equations, control logic such as "if-then-else" statements as well as complex event sequences;  (register transfer level) to netlist realization. Additionally, the verification environment will be used to emulate actual lab debug To correct a problem in hardware or software. Debugging software means locating the errors in the source code (the program logic). Debugging hardware means finding errors in the circuit design (logical circuits) or in the physical interconnections of the circuits.  activities. Zaiq will conduct system level, block level functional and gate level verification and testability analysis for the complex Chameleon chips.

"Zaiq's extensive experience in verification and project management made them the clear choice to lead this project," said Ana Hunter, vice president of operations and acting vice president of hardware for Chameleon Systems. "It was crucial for us to partner with a verification team that possessed an exceptional level of expertise as we work to provide communications and networking companies with the highest quality in performance and flexibility."

Highly flexible processors that can be reconfigured remotely in the field, Chameleon's chips are designed to simplify communication system design while delivering increased price/performance numbers. The 0.25-micron chip, the CS2112, was introduced in May 2000, while the 0.18-micron chip is due out later this year.

"Innovative companies like Chameleon Systems rely on seasoned engineering talent and proven methodologies to provide them with breakthrough time-to-revenue design engineering solutions," said Ray Carlin car·line or car·lin

About Chameleon

Founded in 1997, Chameleon Systems, Inc. is a privately held fabless semiconductor company A fabless semiconductor company specializes in the design and sale of hardware devices implemented on semiconductor chips. It achieves an advantage by outsourcing the fabrication of the devices to a specialized semiconductor manufacturer called a semiconductor foundry or "fab.  that designs, markets and sells programmable system-on-a-chip solutions for the communications electronics markets. Headquartered in San Jose, California San Jose (IPA: /ˌsænhoʊˈzeɪ/) is the third-largest city in California, and the tenth-largest in the United States. It is the county seat of Santa Clara County. , the company has developed the industry's first reconfigurable communications processor (RCP (networking, tool) rcp - (Remote copy) The Unix utility for copying files over Ethernet.
