County have a cumulative budget of $27.2 million, up $2.8 million or 9 percent from the previous year. Twenty-three chambers reported budget increases in 2005. Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center saw the largest budget increase in 2005, increasing 17.8 percent. The largely residential city is home to many motion-picture and television personalities. Chamber of Commerce is the second fastest-growing chamber on the fist. Its budget increased by $550,000 or 17.5 percent in 2006. Industry Manufacturers' Council is the third fastest growing chamber with a nearly $1.3 million budget, up $182,000 or 16.6 percent compared with 2005. As the City of Industry's chamber, Industry Manufacturers Council has over 2,500 members making it the largest chamber in the county by membership. The 25 largest chambers of commerce in L.A. County have an average minimum membership fee of $277 and combined membership of 19,218 businesses. THE PACESETTER LOS ANGELES Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE The largest chamber in L.A. County saw its budget surpass $5 million in 2006, up 8 percent from the previous year. Gary Gary, city (1990 pop. 116,646), Lake co., NW Ind., a port of entry on Lake Michigan; inc. 1909. Gary was founded by the U.S. Steel Corporation, which purchased the land in 1905 and landscaped it for a city. The chamber itself has contributed $200,000 from a fundraiser for the campaign. The ballot initiatives will provide funding for roads, schools, water and the environment. Founded in 1888, the L.A. Area Chamber of Commerce has 1,500 members. Toeben expects membership to increase in 2007. "We expect to add 50-100 net new members in the coming year," he said.
