Sounds far-fetched but these are all in the works accuruing tO Daniel Burrus in his highly regarded Techno techno

Trends newsletter. Burrus is an author, futurist and technology forecaster, and I've had the unique pleasure of hearing his views at two conferences over the past year. Given the Detroiter's focus this month on technology, I thought I'd share some of Burrus' ideas with our readers.

"Your view of the future re shapes your actions today and your actions today shape your view of the future."

By the year 2020 it is said that 95 percent of all communication will be between machines. That means not just the obvious sales calls but medical appointments, depositions, advanced manufacturing technologies. Sooner than that, it is predicted that in less than two years 80 percent of all autos purchased will be over the Web. Every Chamber member, every industry will be affected so it's wise to start thinking today about being competitive tomorrow.

"You cannot stop change, but you can shape it to your advantage. If we spend our time doing what we have always done, we will not have enough time to learn about or maximize the use of new technology."

We all know our time is stretched to the limit, yet we have to keep up with the times. In the Auto Show An auto show, or motor show, is a public exhibition of current automobile models, debuts, concept cars, or out-of-production classics. It is commonly attended by automobile manufacturers. Most auto shows occur once or twice a year.  Preview on page 10, Robert Albitz of The George P. Johnson Co. acknowledges that "time is the most important currency we have." And yet, one thing that will not change (to the best of our knowledge) is the number of hours in a day. Therefore it is critical that we look at how we are using our own time and that of our customers. We must step away from the comfort zone and step into new and often confusing con·fuse

, we can maximize technology to really benefit our bottom line and improve customer service.

"Dwelling on current reality reinforces sameness. Dwelling on future goals reinforces action."

Think about your future customers, their future needs, your future competition and your future problems. If you can create a vision of these, Burrus believes you will be motivated to develop strategies that will be able to solve these problems before they even arise.
