GIANFRANCO ZOLA Gianfranco Zola OBE (born July 5, 1966 in Oliena, Sardinia) is a retired Italian footballer. He spent the first decade of his career in Italy, most notably with Napoli and Parma, before moving to English side Chelsea, where he was voted Football Writers' Player of the Year in 1997.  has set up a meeting with Marouane Chamakh Marouane Chamakh (Arabic: مروان شماخ, born on 10 January, 1984 in Tonnens, France) is a French-Moroccan football player who plays as a striker.  on Monday - to try to persuade him to join West Ham.

The Bordeaux striker (above) was desperate to move to Arsenal and still hopes they'll come back in for him.

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud has given West Ham permission to speak to the Moroccan after Zola made a pounds 6m offer, but Arsenal have had a bigger bid turned down.

The Hammers' current financial position means an increased offer is unlikely, but Chamakh warned: "It is my decision."
