Medford won the first game 4-1. The Challengers (28-9 overall) are tied with Medford for first place in the Area 4 standings at 7-3.

Royster's blast over the left-field fence was his 12th of the season. A.J. Norris led off the inning with a walk and Kellen Hobie singled with one out to set up the game-winning home run.

Royster, Norris and James Mannion each had two hits in the contest, while Sean Mascolo picked up the victory and Patrick Cooley earned his fourth save.

Norris also had two hits in the opener and scored the lone run for the Challengers on Royster's RBI RBI

 citation to Wes Ediger, former executive director of the Oregon School Activities Association.

The award, which is designed to honor individuals who impacted prep activity programs, is one of the most highly regarded achievements in high school activities.

Ediger directed the OSAA from 1993 until his retirement in 2001. His career as a school administrator included stints as assistant principal and principal at South Salem High School South Salem High School was the second public high school built in Salem, Oregon, in 1954, at which time the former Salem High School was renamed North Salem High School. Reign split two games

at Canada Cup

VANCOUVER, B.C. - The Oregon Reign 18-and-under softball team moved to 2-1 in pool play at the Canada Cup tournament Tuesday.

Kristina Cooke tossed a three-hit shutout as the Reign defeated the Calahoo 86ers 5-0. Lacey Gorman, Stephanie Bour and Lauren McCarthy each singled in a run in a three-run third inning for the Oregon club.

The Reign was held to two hits in a 7-0 loss to the Washington Lady Hawks Gold of Seattle.

The Reign, which is 31-8 overall, meets the Nebraska Echoes at 3:30 p.m. today

Magic open tourney with one victory, one loss

U.S. team announced for World Championships

Hurdler Allen Johnson was among five defending world champions selected Tuesday for the U.S. team at the IAAF IAAF

 World Outdoor Track & Field Championships next month in Paris.

Joining 110-meter hurdler Johnson on the team announced by USA Track & Field were shot put champion John Godina, women's pole vaulter Stacy Dragila, 100-meter champ Maurice Greene, and 2001 world indoor and outdoor gold medalist Anjanette Kirkland in the 100-meter hurdles.

The world championships will be Aug. 23-31.

Eugene's contingent includes 5,000-meter champion Marla Runyan and Becky Holliday in the pole vault.

Hammer thrower John McEwen made the U.S. squad, but he has not yet achieved the IAAF's `A' qualifying standard in the event.

Two other athletes with Oregon roots have earned berths in the world championships - Portland's Dan Browne in the 10,000 meters and former Lane Community College standout Tom Pappas in the decathlon decathlon (dĭkăth`lŏn), in modern Olympic games, a contest for men held over two days and composed of 10 track-and-field events. .

Richey's Market shuts out Emerald Valley, 11-0

CORVALLIS - Emerald Valley managed just five hits in an 11-0 loss to Richey's Market of Corvallis in an Area 3 American Legion game on Tuesday.

Jon Higgins had two hits for the Titans (23-16, 3-6 Area 3).
