Challenge to ban on housing is lost.

A CHALLENGE to the ban on all new developments in west Wirral has been dismissed by an independent planning inspector.

Last December, Wirral council put a block on building in the area to stop it becoming over- developed and any planning applications have since been refused.

Bloor Homes, based in Wilmslow, appealed the decision but lost.

The firm wanted to demolish de·mol·ish

a house in Brimstage Road, Heswall and replace it with five new ones.

The planning inspector ruled it went against Wirral's planning guidelines guidelines,

.

Planning Director Jim Wilkie said: ``The inspector's decision is important because it shows that Wirral has enough new housing sites identified to satisfy demand in the near future and that priority should be given to supporting urban regeneration Regeneration (biology)

``The council is committed to protecting the environment, both in existing residential areas and by maintaining a tight Green Belt.

``This approach supports regeneration in the east of the borough and we hope that this will help our ambitions to support the Housing Market Renewal area.

``The Government is playing its part by giving resources to Wirral,Liverpool and Sefton to target on housing market renewal.''
