The author evokes the sounds of the train in this story, which is set in the legendary steam engine days of the Great Northern Railroad railroad or railway, form of transportation most commonly consisting of steel rails, called tracks, on which freight cars, passenger cars, and other rolling stock are drawn by one locomotive or more. . A young girl develops friendships as she travels alone from her country home to visit her grandma in the city and engages in lively dialogue with workers and other travelers. The colorful illustrations vividly capture the countryside and the characters. Ages 4-8. Reviewed by Rose B. Jones, The University of Southern Mississippi, Hattiesburg
