 Susan Chalifoux Zephir, a businesswoman and local activist, has decided to run for state representative in the 4th Worcester District, which is composed entirely of Leominster.

Ms. Chalifoux Zephir, a Democrat who grew up in Leominster, is running for the seat held by Jennifer L. Flanagan, who is running for state Senate in September.

Ms. Chalifoux Zephir, 53, served on the City Council from 1995 through 1997 and was chairwoman of the Finance Committee during that tenure. She was a co-founder of the Notown Citizens' Action Committee, formed to protect the city's drinking water drinking water

supply of water available to animals for drinking supplied via nipples, in troughs, dams, ponds and larger natural water sources; an insufficient supply leads to dehydration; it can be the source of infection, e.g. leptospirosis, salmonellosis, or of poisoning, e.g.
; and a founding board member of the Leominster Land Trust, to protect open space.

Ms. Chalifoux Zephir said she will work for more state

aid to help reduce the property tax burden and be a strong voice for the public schools.

A mother of three daughters, she was a coach and girls travel director for Leominster Youth Soccer, and served as a member of the library building committee that led several improvement projects during the last 15 years.

Ms. Chalifoux Zephir has also been a member of the board of directors of Our Father's House since 2002. The organization provides services and programs for homeless people.

Now, I want to put my experience, thoughtfulness, and commitment to work as my hometown's voice at the Statehouse."

Yesterday was the deadline for taking out nomination papers for the Sept. 16 primary. Also running for the state representative seat are City Councilors Claire M. Freda and Dennis A. Rosa.
