Chairman Plans to Retire.

SANTA CRUZ, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 14, 1999--

Plantronics, Inc. (NYSE: PLT) today announced that Robert S. Cecil has, for personal reasons, chosen not to stand for re-election to the Plantronics Board of Directors at the next annual stockholders meeting on July 20, 1999. Mr. Cecil has served as Chairman of the Plantronics Board of Directors since 1993 and was Chief Executive Officer from 1992 until January 1999, when Ken Kannappan was promoted to that position.

Mr. Cecil stated, "It is with regret that I choose not to stand for re-election to the Plantronics Board of Directors. I have enjoyed my seven years with the company and value deeply the outstanding people I have had the pleasure to work with over the past years. I am pleased to leave Plantronics well-positioned to take advantage of the many growth opportunities in the industry, staffed by an exceptionally strong management team."
