"It's Cetaphil 24-7," said Trey Schutz, Cetaphil product manager. "This represents an important progression in the Cetaphil line by offering both a.m. and p.m. skin care."

Retinol, a light-sensitive anti-aging ingredient, combats the extrinsic signs of aging, such as exposure to UV light and other environmental extremes that cause deep, coarse wrinkles over time.

"Retinol is a very efficient ingredient for helping skin look younger, smoother and clearer," said Patricia Farris, M.D., a Metairie, LA dermatologist and Tulane University clinical assistant professor. "The problem is that retinol is a finicky fin·ick·y

The low level of retinol in Cetaphil's moisturizer also provides a safe and effective way to deliver benefits, such as improved skin texture and pigmentation pigmentation, name for the coloring matter found in certain plant and animal cells and for the color produced thereby. "Cetaphil Nighttime Facial Moisturizer with Retinol allows users to experience less irritation than other products containing retinol," said Stephen W. Clark, president of Galderma Laboratories, manufacturer of Cetaphil. "It is widely used and recommended by dermatologists."

and several prescription and over-the-counter products exist to rectify extrinsic skin damage, but using retinol alone can provide the desired effects, according to Mr. Schutz. Clinical studies at Galderma Laboratories showed a 30-35% improvement in fine lines and wrinkles during a four-month nighttime trial. Pigmentation and color of the skin were also improved by 30%. A 1.05-oz. tube will retail for $15 at mass merchandise and drug stores nationwide this January.

Galderma Laboratories also introduced Differin (adapalene) Cream, 0.1%, an acne solution for sensitive skin. According to company research, people with acne have both sensitive and oily skin that is allergic to many cosmetic and exfoliation exfoliation /ex·fo·li·a·tion/ (eks-fo?le-a´shun)
