The 31-year-old veterinary secretary will be one of 10 amateur riders competing in tomorrow's John Smith's People's Race The John Smith's People's Race is an amateur flat race for members of the public, held at Aintree during the April Grand National meeting. 30 applicants were chosen from 3500 postal applications. These 30 attended assessments on the weekend of 3/4th February 2007. , and at 10st 3lbs now easily makes the 11st 7lbs race weight. And knowing she had the chance to take part in the pounds 100,000 charity flat race which opens the Grand National Day card gave her all the motivation she needed to get back in shape. Cerys said: "It definitely made me more determined to shift the weight. My husband Mark says I didn't even shift this much weight for my wedding - he says he's got a new wife! "I cried tears of happiness when I found out I was in the race and all the work and losing weight had paid off. "Now the weight's come off it isn't going back on. I've become a bit of a gym freak and get upset now if I can't go. But I'm absolutely broke at the moment having to buy new clothes!" Cerys's People's Race diet has involved riding out for Carl Llewellyn, regular gym sessions and a weekly slot with a personal trainer, plus an overhaul of what she ate. Instead of skipping breakfast Cerys now has a yoghurt yogurt, yoghurt a form of curdled milk produced by fermentation with organisms of the genus Lactobacillus. Used in the treatment of convalescing calves and other young animals after attacks of diarrhea. and a slice of toast with Marmite mar·mite n. 1. a.
