The mum-of-two has spent all her 20 years at CPS Birmingham, where she started as a junior prosecutor and rose through the ranks to become head of the Criminal Justice Unit in 2001. Mrs Salt has prosecuted hundreds of defendants in road traffic fatality and injury cases, including millionaire's son Antonio Boparan Singh. The 19-year-old was driving at 70 mph in a 30 mph zone when he crashed into a car carrying 11-month-old Cerys Edwards. She was left brain-damaged and the Birmingham teenager received 21 months in jail for dangerous driving. Cerys' parents Tracy and Gareth, of Sutton Coldfield, want a new law of causing serious injury by dangerous driving with up to ten years' jail. Their campaign received a boost last month when Justice Secretary Jack Straw vowed to review dangerous driving laws after receiving a 13,000-name petition.
