The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. , CertainTeed Corporation has begun a major multi-million dollar expansion of its Shreveport, Louisiana roofing facility to install equipment to produce these popular shingles.

In addition to its current three-tab shingle, low-slope roofing and felt underlayment production, the plant will now manufacture the highly popular Landmark(TM) Series line of laminated shingles. Landmark production is expected to kick-off late next year.

Laminates, commonly referred to as "architectural" or "designer" shingles, are quickly becoming the roofing shingle of choice among consumers who reroof their homes with asphalt-based shingles. They consist of two pieces, a base and a dragon's tooth overlay, that feature striking color blends and shadow effects to create the appearance of natural wood shakes.

"Laminated shingles are the fastest growing product segment in the roofing industry," says Kermit Stahl, CertainTeed's vice president of asphalt shingle manufacturing and technology. "Over 50-percent of all shingles sold this year will be laminates and the number is rising."

Landmark is available nationwide with 30-, 40-, and 50-year limited warranties. It is available in at least eight colors (more depending on region of the country), features an Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Class A fire rating, and is algae algae (ăl`jē) [plural of Lat. alga=seaweed], a large and diverse group of primarily aquatic plantlike organisms. "The decision to install a laminator at our Shreveport location is in direct response to growing customer confidence in CertainTeed and its products," Stahl says. "This is a testament to our workforce which is committed to excellent productivity, quality, and service."
