CertCities.com Readers Name Cisco, Security Certifications Top Titles to Acquire in 2003.

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 13, 2002

Annual IT Certification "Hot List" Shows

Growing Interest in Linux/Unix Designations

Cisco's Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE See Cisco certification. ) and CompTIA's Security+ certifications were selected by readers of CertCities.com as the top two certification titles that they would seek to acquire next year.

According to CertCities.com Editor Becky Nagel, the CCIE landed the number one spot on the online publication's "10 Hottest Certifications for 2003" list because of its excellent reputation and job market relevancy, while Security+ is a new, entry-level title that can act as a stepping stone to more advanced certifications.

The list is based on the results of CertCities.com's annual reader survey, which asked a diverse group of IT professionals what certification titles they plan to achieve within the next 12 months. These results are compiled into a "reader interest score" for each title. A "buzz score" from industry experts and contributing editors was also added based on the certification's reputation, the industry's take on the title and accolades it received.

"This list of hottest certifications for the next year contains both surprises as well as some expected results," said Nagel. "Security certifications will be hot -- we knew that -- but, for example, we never expected three Linux/Unix titles to make the list. It appears that many traditional Windows network administrators are viewing Linux/Unix titles as a good way to expand their skill set."

"It is interesting to see the diversity of titles on next year's list of hot certs," said Henry Allain, publisher of Microsoft Certified Professional See Microsoft certification.  Magazine and CertCities.com. "It clearly shows that IT departments today are becoming increasingly more complex, which is driving a mixed bag of credentials and the need for IT professionals to have varied skill sets. In addition, many of these certifications are augmenting existing credentials, such as the popular MCSE See Microsoft certification.

MCSE - Microsoft Certified System Engineer
, to bring greater marketability and advancement opportunities for the IT employee or manager."
