The circuit, often called a chip, is packaged in a hermetically sealed case or a nonhermetic plastic capsule, with leads extending from it for probe test products for the worldwide semiconductor market. The agreement culminates two years of preparatory work whereby Mitsubishi has set up development facilities in Sanda, Japan, and Cerprobe has expanded its research and development facilities at its new world headquarters facility in Gilbert, Ariz. The development effort will utilize proprietary technology to address the increasing demands for finer geometry and the higher performance requirements for the wafer testing phase of semiconductor manufacturing. Close stated, "We have worked cooperatively with Mitsubishi over the past two years and we are very pleased to enter into this formal agreement to bring new products to market, as well as to strengthen our global presence. "We believe that the combination of Cerprobe's technical expertise in wafer probing and Mitsubishi's experience in employing advanced materials Advanced Materials is a leading peer-reviewed materials science journal published every two weeks. Advanced Materials includes Communications, Reviews, and Feature Articles from the cutting edge of materials science, including topics in chemistry, physics, and manufacturing techniques will facilitate the creation of new products that will provide unique testing capabilities to the worldwide market." Hosoda commented: "We have a high regard for Cerprobe, their technology and reputation, and are most pleased to conclude this agreement with a leading developer and manufacturer of wafer probing devices within the U.S. and the world. We believe this joint development effort will accelerate the introduction of new probing products, and we look forward to working with Cerprobe to accomplish our mutual objectives."
