Cerplex Achieves ISO 14001 Certification; Lille, France Facility Among First to Receive Endorsement.

TUSTIN, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 2, 1998--Orange County-based The Cerplex Group Inc. (OTC/BB:CPLX), a leading provider of built-to-order/contract assembly, electronic repair services, spare parts and logistics for the computer, telecommunications and office automation industries, Thursday announced that its Lille, France facility has achieved ISO 14001 certification.

In September 1996, the Geneva-based International Organization for Standardization (ISO) released ISO 14001, its standard for Environmental Management Systems aimed at reducing the environmental impact of corporate activity and products. It is fast becoming the world standard for environmental regulations regarding the impact on manufacturing and industry. Cerplex SAS is one of 104 companies in France to be ISO 14001 certified.

Cerplex has taken the lead in the ISO standardization effort by publishing its own certification guidelines which are available upon request by calling the Lille facility at 33-320-23-4340.

The document, "Going green: the real cost of ISO 14001," is designed to offer companies a perspective on the importance of certification -- what can be achieved not only to ease the pressure for companies aiming for existing targets, but how longer term environmental performance can be improved within increasingly tight profit margins, Davis said.

Cerplex's European operation is managed from its offices in Enfield, United Kingdom and Lille, France on the France/Belgium border, strategically accessible to its European customer base. The Lille site covers more than 1.5 million square feet of land, of which production and warehousing occupy 326,000 square feet.

The Lille facility performs electro-mechanical design, assembly; customization, re-manufacturing and repair. Equipment services include paper-handling and electronic products such as copiers, input and output devices, printers, electronic boards, monitors, ATMs and point-of-sale equipment, fax machines and laptop computers. The facility also offers bonded warehousing, customs clearance and pan-European logistics services.

In addition to the Lille facility, Cerplex has international operations in Enfield and Leeds in the United Kingdom. U.S. facilities are in Marina Del Rey, Livermore and Ontario in California, Louisville, Ky., and Lawrence, Mass.
