MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 22, 1998--

Committee of Professionals to Provide Strategic Direction

John Stauffer, senior vice president of product planning for Ceridian Tax Service, a business of Ceridian Employer Services, has been selected to serve on the first Electronic Tax Administration Advisory Committee (ETAAC E`taac´

). The 17-member committee authorized by Congress in connection with Internal Revenue Service reform legislation, will help the IRS An abbreviation for the Internal Revenue Service, a federal agency charged with the responsibility of administering and enforcing internal revenue laws.  plan its strategy for making electronic filing the preferred and most convenient method of filing tax and information returns. The ETAAC also will provide an organized forum for discussion of electronic tax administration issues.

"Congress and the IRS should be commended for stressing electronic tax administration as we head into the 21st century," said Stauffer. "Electronic filing is the front line of IRS communication with taxpayer customers. Congress and the IRS created the committee to ensure that taxpayers receive the best service--and the latest technology--from their government."

Stauffer has expertise in the implementation of innovative electronic tax administration systems. He helped create TaxTeL, an electronic system for filing taxes in all jurisdictions within the United States that are set up to process taxes electronically. Stauffer was instrumental in implementing the U.S. Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS EFTPS Electronic Federal Tax Payment System

) and in Minnesota's conversion to an all-electronic filing system. He is one of the four principals of the start-up business that is now Ceridian Tax Service, managing that company's transition from a paper environment to an electronic environment.

The ETAAC members are volunteers chosen from nearly 100 applicants whose backgrounds range from tax services, software companies, non-profit associations and financial and educational institutions. Ceridian is the only bulk payroll tax Payroll Tax

By participating on the ETAAC, Ceridian continues its first-hand involvement with IRS considerations and developments in the area of electronic filing.
