Ceridian Employer Services announces a new Internet-based application that lets small companies use Web technology to transmit payroll, human resource and tax data. Ceridian Powerpay(tm) will enable small businesses to outsource payroll processing, tax filing and other routine administrative tasks, so they can better focus on their core business. Ceridian is the first national payroll company to offer a Web-based product.

Ceridian Powerpay, the new Internet See Web 2.0 and Internet2.  solution from Ceridian Small Business Solutions, is designed specifically for companies that currently telephone or fax payroll information to payroll processors. The new application enables companies to transmit data to Ceridian via the Internet, making payroll processing even easier and more convenient for small business customers.

Powerpay is scheduled for July release in the New York metropolitan area New York–Northern New Jersey–Long Island is the most populous metropolitan area in the United States and the third most populous in the world, after Tokyo and Mexico City.  now serviced by Ceridian Small Business Solutions and nationally later in 1998.

"This Internet payroll solution, the first in a series of Web-based products Ceridian is developing, will provide small companies with the flexibility they want," said Robert Digby Robert Digby may refer to:
  • Robert Digby, 1st Baron Digby (c. 1599–1642)
  • Robert Digby, 3rd Baron Digby (1654–1677)
  • Robert Digby (admiral), English Member of Parliament for Wells 1757-1761
, senior vice president of marketing. "Now, instead of a limited number of hours when a small business owner can call in payroll data, they can submit payroll and reporting data at their convenience, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This new solution also provides small businesses with access to features such as new hire reporting and tax filing, which have previously been enjoyed only by larger companies."

Being the first national employer services company to offer a payroll solution via the Internet demonstrates Ceridian's strong commitment to Web-based technology in future product offerings. "While Ceridian Powerpay is unique to the information services market, the idea of Web-based service is hardly new to Ceridian," Digby said. "Ceridian already offers an employee self service product and customer service on the Web, and Powerpay is another example of our commitment to creating a full-service payroll product with Web-based convenience. Powerpay gives small businesses the flexibility to easily process payroll, tax filing, human resources The fancy word for "people." The human resources department within an organization, years ago known as the "personnel department," manages the administrative aspects of the employees. , benefits, 401(k), premium only plans, unemployment services and other functions. No other major information services company offers a comprehensive solution with this kind of convenience."

Digby noted that businesses with fewer than 100 employees comprise 89 percent of all U.S. companies. In the past, this market segment has had relatively few payroll options. "With our new solution, business owners will have access to features such as direct deposit or paper checks, new hire reporting, easy-to-follow tax filing, wage garnishments and benefits administration. And in the near future, users will have access to other Web-based products such as time and attendance and employee self service."

Ceridian's Powerpay offers small businesses enhanced data entry options that Ceridian's customers are familiar with. "We are the same company that our customers have always known," Digby said. "Customers won't need to learn a new program or help their employees grow accustomed to new payroll checks or reports. All the outputs are exactly the same. Plus, the interface is the same, our staff is the same and the toll free help line remains the same. Ceridian Small Business Solutions currently enjoys a 98 percent customer satisfaction rating, and with Powerpay we will continue to provide consistently excellent products and services. The difference is that small business owners will enjoy easier data entry and more options."

Because security is an important issue in Internet transactions, Ceridian ensured that data transmissions will be completely secure. "When you talk about the Internet, there is a lot of fear about transmitting sensitive information," Digby said. "To ensure that this is not a concern for our customers, the Web- based application is protected by our firewall and data transfer is fully encrypted en·crypt

. With Ceridian's system, transmitting payroll data on the Web is as safe as other methods that customers are comfortable with, such as phoning in payroll data."

Ceridian's new small business solution works with most standard Web browsers The following is a list of web browsers. Historical

Internet Explorer is the most widely used Web browser on the market. It has also been the browser engine in AOL's Internet access software.  and Netscape Navigator An earlier Web browser for Windows, Macintosh and X Windows from Netscape that provided secure transmission over the Internet. Soon after its introduction in 1994, Navigator, or just "Netscape," as it was commonly called, quickly became the leading browser on the Web. . "We constructed this new application with two things in mind - convenience and cost," Digby said. "We made Powerpay compatible with the vast majority of browsers so anyone running Windows or using Netscape can begin using it immediately, without investing in additional hardware or software. And since it works with any kind of PC product, small business owners never need to worry about updating or upgrading.
