Cereplast, Inc. Responds to Polystyrene Ban by Santa Monica City Council; Cereplast and Its Partners Ready to Provide Environmentally-Friendly Alternatives.

HAWTHORNE, Calif. -- In response to the Santa Monica City Council's decision Tuesday night to ban all non-recyclable food-related packaging within Santa Monica, Cereplast, Inc. (OTCBB:CERP), producer of renewable and biodegradable plastics, which are alternatives to petroleum-based plastics, announced that it is ready to work with the city and businesses as they move away from petroleum-based plastic food containers.

Cereplast's BPI-certified resins use a patented and proprietary manufacturing process that incorporates starch and other biodegradable components, including PLA from NatureWorks(R) LLC. Cereplast has already been working with the City of San Francisco to replace traditional plastic products with Cereplast-based products.

Cereplast recently partnered with Duni Corporation to develop a line of thermoformed food containers that meet Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) standards for compostability and biodegradability, offering Santa Monica consumers and businesses another environmentally-friendly alternative.
