Cenus Announces New Sales Channel; Breakthrough Next Generation Technology to be made available Via Sun VARs, Resellers.

Business/Technology

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 21, 2002

Cenus Technologies(TM) a start-up company start-up company

A new business.
located in Scotts Valley, California Scotts Valley is a small city located in eastern Santa Cruz County, California, United States, about ten miles (16 km) south of San Jose and six miles (10 km) north of the beach in the upland slope of the Santa Cruz Mountains. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 11,385. , today announced it will provide products based on its breakthrough technology via Sun's National network of VARs and Resellers.

. Given our decision to utilize Sun systems, it seems natural that the best pathway to the Market is via Sun's VARs and resellers."

Decision to Use Sun Hardware

Cenus had to weigh many factors in the ultimate decision as to how to best develop its technology for deployment. One such decision was the choice to use established hardware platforms Each hardware platform, or CPU family, has a unique machine language. All software presented to the computer for execution must be in the binary coded machine language of that CPU. Following is a list of the major hardware platforms in existence today. See platform.  -- versus a custom built box -- as its delivery vehicle. The Company evaluated systems and platforms from several vendors before deciding to utilize Sun's SPARC/Solaris combination.

"There were many choices we could have made," notes Dr. J.J. Garcia-Luna-Aceves Chief Scientist for Cenus. "We could have designed a custom ASIC, or built an entire custom platform. However, this would slow overall development without providing a significant performance increase. By opting to go with an established platform, we were able to be far more flexible in our designs and realize our vision faster."

Cenus will create advanced network based solutions for Content Delivery, Applications Computing, Storage, and Web Services from its core technologies, all on Sun systems. Cenus' Layer 7 routing provides a premier solution for the deployment of Sun ONE; an integrated suite of software services, and an open architecture for the development of web based services.

This solution will offer products with features, functionality, performance, scalability, and reliability for both enterprises and service providers that are not available from any other vendor at any price and not possible using conventional technologies. Cenus Application Layer routing is the only platform capable of interconnecting both distributed and collocated systems on an Internet wide scale. Cenus application level routing works with full global knowledge, yet without global state.

"When it came down to the wire, we needed to work with a system designed with a tight coupling between CPU CPU

and Operating System," adds Garcia-Luna. "That made Sun an obvious choice."

See internationalization and l10n.  of service for client requests; it is capable of providing "virtually local" performance for network-based applications. The result is that Cenus' scalable routing technology is a platform that provides customers with a solution that yields increasing benefits as the networking problems increase in difficulty and complexity. In designing the solution, Cenus created a technology that is best described as "service agnostic routing" which is fully extensible to current and any future use of networks for the delivery of network-based services such as storage and computation.

One of the most significant problems facing today's networks as they expand to meet the demands of users is that they have become more and more complex, often resulting in less reliability. Solutions built by Cenus are uniquely capable of dynamically providing increasing benefits as the network and the services it delivers become more complex. Cenus next generation networking Next Generation Networking (NGN) is a broad term to describe some key architectural evolutions in telecommunication core and access networks that will be deployed over the next 5-10 years.  technology delivers greater performance, scalability and reliability as networks become more distributed and as networks manage increasingly higher bandwidth and more interactive applications.

Cenus' proprietary software platform is a set of technologies which enable networks to scale and perform without regard to the number of servers, users, and objects -- offering functionality, features and benefits not available from any other vendor. Cenus proprietary routing breaks all barriers to scaling, enabling the virtualization An umbrella term for enhancing a computer's ability to do work. Following are the ways virtualization is used.

This addresses the greatest desire of application vendors and users making Cenus' application layer service and agnostic routing the premier platform for all application vendors, enabling the optimal deployment, distribution, and interconnection of their customers.
